"Iowa and America have a long tradition of politicians championing anti-LGBT causes while they themselves are privately queer" stated Bob Fekless, representative from somewhere in Northwest Iowa.
Fekless is the author of many of the recent anti-gay bills under consideration. He was interviewed while attending the funeral of a "special friend."
"It is exhausting to pursue laws against gay, lesbian, or trans people while maintaining a 'straight' public profile. Those people are visible everywhere, not just in drag shows or restrooms, but in libraries, churches, schools, and stores.
"We want to make sure we can protect our closeted legislators from being outed. Our goal is to keep the 'self' in self-hate."
Representative Fekless provided a list of the anti-LGBT bills currently before the Iowa Legislature.
Most recently the Iowa House has proposed adding the "C" for "closeted" into the label "LGBTQIA+".
Fekless noted, "The C is silent."
The "Stay in the Closet" legislation has received the endorsement of the Legislature's Hypocrisy Caucus, which consists of members who send their children to private schools or home-school, yet impose new restrictions on public education.
