Farmer Refuses to Help Neighbor - Cites "Ingratitude"

A farmer has refused to assist his neighbor during planting season this year.

Local grain farmer Ralph Bandon says it is because his neighbor, Bob Downley, hasn't thanked him for the help he gave during last fall's harvest.

Downley, a third generation farmer, was severely injured in a tractor rollover last August.  In addition to a broken back, Downley suffered severe head trauma which has left him unable to speak and subject to frequent seizures.

Neighbors from five nearby farms came to his aid and worked together to bring in his crop.

"I pitched in with everyone else during harvest," explained Bandon. "I put in a lot of hours and Downley hasn't really thanked me that much.

"I would expect at least a 'thumbs up' from him when I see him in his wheelchair.

"I gave him a week of my life last October."
